ABOUT

About

And the joy does not know restraint or politeness - the hips, the belly, all my body parts, and emotions merge. I invite you to dare, break boundaries and discover your personal movement. A movement that will spread aliveness and joy in every cell in your body.

My name is Anastasia and dancing is my world. Years ago, when my children were small, I was exhausted, depressed, and extremely unhappy in my own skin. I discovered a local women's dance circle and that changed my life. I found lovely sisters and a safe space to be myself and to feel beautiful, feminine, round, and magical. When I moved to Ann Arbor, I searched for such a community with no luck so I decided to build one myself.

In my eyes, dance is far beyond aesthetics and creation, it is an expression of feelings, a means to feel and release. In our dance circles, I am exposed week after week to the direct connection between ethnic dance and the therapy inherent in the art of dance. Folkloric dance is repetitious, free, and intuitive, it is a gateway to the unconscious and to the most hidden depths of the soul.

I invite you to a weekly dance circle with me where we

will try to connect to our bodies and our feelings when we listen to beautiful music and try to invent our own fusion and dance style.

This is an invitation not only to a meaningful connection with ourselves and with the women of our community but also, to a joyful workout and a safe space to dance like nobody is watching and to express ourselves through movement and appreciation for the wonderful and amazing bodies that we are so lucky to have.

Wear your most colorful, longest skirt, and come as you are!

TESTIMONIAL

In every class, we will explore

-Deep floor work in which we become acquainted with our body and its habits, in a deep and precise way.

-Different dance techniques from the world of ethnic dance: barefoot feminine flamenco, belly dance, Sufi whirling, Indian dance, Roma Gypsy dance, Zambra, and Mediterranean dance which includes dance styles inspired by different areas including Greece, Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, and Spain.

I have a special fondness for accessories and we will often use them during the dance: silk scarves, hand cymbals bells, silk fans, and more.

-Movement in space - is a value in itself. Ethnic dance changes all the time. We make sure to combine a lot of movement in space (and on the way challenge cardio-pulmonary endurance) and are not afraid of jumps and turns (while keeping the pelvic floor safe of course)

The structure of the lesson is dynamic and we move according to the need and ability between built-in combinations and even choreography, for improvisation, exercises, and personal search.

Part of the beauty of this style is that anyone can find themselves dancing to any music anywhere. It is important for me to instill the confidence to move and the joy that dance brings in everyone's body, no less than the technique that is important for me to teach (maybe even more ...)

I invite you to join and create our tribe and get to know and love your body.

No experience is required!

There will be some tea and a chat time after the class if you wish to stay and get to know us.
